Estamos a solo días para el primer Festival de Voces Femeninas que tiene a Nightwish como la banda principal y a los peruanos de Crownless y la agrupación holandesa Delain que visitara por primera vez nuestro país este martes 06 de octubre en el Estadio San Marcos.
Delain es una banda de gothic y symphonic metal que viene recorriendo su primera gira sudamericana junto a Nightwish y Lima tendrá la dicha cuando su vocalista Charlotte Wessels junto al tecladista Martijn Westerhold (ex Within Temptation) encanten con sus mejores canciones en especial de su ultimo álbum que vienen promocionando "The Human Contradition".
Por tal motivo Dargedik Webzine tuvo la oportunidad de entrevistar a Charlotte Wessels quien nos respondió diversas preguntas entre ellas sobre su quinto álbum y su décimo aniversario que están próximos a cumplir el 2016.
1- First of All, thank you for your time. I know it is the first show in Perú for you. how do you feel about it? What do you know about Perú?
1- Ante todo, gracias por su tiempo. Sé que es su primer show en Perú para ustedes ¿Cómo se sienten sobre ellos? ¿Qué conocen del Perú?
-We are very excited to be performing in Peru for the very fist time. We have been receiving many warm messages from our fans in Peru, which makes us feel so welcome before even putting one feet on the ground. We are hugely looking forward to the concert.
-Estamos muy entusiasmados de poder tocar en Perú por primera vez. Hemos estado recibiendo muchos cálidos mensajes de nuestros fanáticos en Perú, lo cual nos hace sentir bienvenidos incluso antes de haber pisado suelo peruano. Esperamos con ansias este concierto.
2- If any of our readers have never heard of the band before how would you describe Delain and what music of your should they take a look at first?
2- Si alguno de nuestros lectores nunca ha escuchado antes a la banda ¿Cómo describirían a Delain y qué temas deberían escuchar de ustedes primeros?
-I think we can safely be classified as symphonic metal, featuring catchy melodies and a heavy sound all the same. I think our latest album is a good representation of our sound as it features both our earlier characteristics (elaborate symphonic parts, prominent grunts) as our more recent catchy song structures.
-Yo creo que con seguridad podemos ser clasificados como Metal Sinfónico, tocamos melodías pegadizas y un sonido pesado de todos modos. Creo que nuestro último disco es un buen representante de nuestro sonido ya que cuenta tanto con nuestras características anteriores (piezas sinfónicas elaboradas, gruñidos prominentes) como nuestras estructuras de las canciones pegadizas más recientes.
3- Your last album The Human Contradiction was released last year. How can you describe the sound of this album? And after a year How do you see this album in your career?
3- Su último álbum "The Human Contradiction" fue lanzado el año pasado ¿Cómo describen el sonido de este álbum? Y luego de un año ¿Cómo ven este álbum en su carrera?
- We are very happy with the doors that this album opened for us, the places it has taken us on tour, the new faces in the audience
-Estamos muy contentos con las puertas que este álbum abrió para nosotros, los lugares a los que nos ha llevado de gira, las nuevas caras en la audiencia
4- In your opinion, What are the songs that fans prefer in your concert from your last album? Wich is your favorite song from your last album?
4- En su opinión, ¿Cuáles son las canciones de su último álbum que los fans prefieren en sus conciertos? ¿Cual es tu canción favorita del último disco?
- Stardust is a favorite for sure having around three million views on youtube, The Tragedy of the Commons is also a popular live track.
-Stardust es un favorito de hecho teniendo alrededor de tres millones de visitas en youtube, The Tragedy of the Commons es también un tema popular en los conciertos.
5- Marco Hietala, George Oosthoek and Alissa White-Gluz appeared on this album. How was the experience of working with them? how did this happen?
5- Marco Hietala, George Oosthoek y Alissa White-Gluz aparecieron en este álbum. ¿Cómo fue la experiencia de trabajar con ellos? ¿Cómo se dio esto?
- Marco Hietala has been a long time guest on our albums, appearing on all except one of our records. We love his voice and his voice fits our music perfectly. George Oosthoek performed as a guest grunter on our first record and since we had grunts return for the first time as a prominent feature again on this record we gladly repeated his appearance, as some kind of a reunion. As for Alissa White-Gluz, we met her when we were touring with Kamelot and she joined them on stage. This woman kicks some serious ass on stage and is a very cool person too, we were happy that she was excited to join for a guest appearance.
-Marco Hietala ha sido un invitado desde hace mucho tiempo en nuestros álbumes, apareciendo en todos excepto uno de nuestros álbumes. Nos encanta su voz y su voz se ajusta a nuestra música perfectamente. Jorge Oosthoek ha actuado como la voz gutural invitada en nuestro primer disco y ya que teníamos gruñidos de vueltas por primera vez como una característica destacada dentro del nuevo disco con mucho gusto repitió su colaboración, fue como una especie de reencuentro. En cuanto a Alissa White-Gluz, nosotros la conocimos cuando estábamos de gira con Kamelot y ella se unió a ellos en el escenario. Esta mujer patea culos seriamente sobre el escenario y es una muy buena persona también, nos alegró que estuviera emocionada de unirse a nosotros para una aparición especial.
6- For us, "April Rain" was a landmark in Delain's career. How do you see that album today? Did the band change a lot since those days?
6- Para nosotros, "April Rain" fue un hito en la carrera de Delain. ¿Cómo ven ese álbum hoy? ¿Cambió la banda mucho desde esos días?
- I think it was a very versatile and cool album, also the first one that was created as a band rather than the project it was before. I love the record and I am happy with what it set in motion for us.
- Creo que fue un disco muy versátil y fresco, también el primero que se creó como una banda más que como el proyecto era antes. Me encanta el disco y estoy contento con lo que pone en movimiento para nosotros.
7- What do you do when you are not touring or making music?
7- ¿Qué haces cuando no están de gira o haciendo música?
- To be honest there is not a lot of time we're not touring or making music, but whenever we have, I like to spend quality time with my loved ones back home, and spend my time engaging with the arts more recreationally, writing, drawing, reading, singing and playing tourist in my own city.
- Para ser honestos no hay mucho tiempo que no estemos de gira o haciendo música, pero cada vez que tenemos, me gusta pasar tiempo con mis seres queridos de vuelta en casa, y pasar mi tiempo comprometiéndome con las artes más recreativas, la escritura, dibujar, leer, cantar y hacer de turista en mi propia ciudad.
8- Now, you are coming for the first Female fronted bands festival in Perú and you are touring with Nightwish. What do you feel about it? Have you heard about the peruvian band Crownless?
8- Ahora, van a venir para el primer Festival de bandas con voces femeninas en Perú y están de gira con Nightwish. ¿Qué sienten al respecto? ¿Han oído hablar de la banda peruana Crownless?
- We're looking forward to it a lot. I haven't heard of Crownless but can't wait to hear them when they will join the stage with us in Peru.
- Estamos muy ansiosos de tocar (en Perú). No he oído a Crownless pero no puedo esperar a escucharlos cuando se nos unan en el escenario en Perú.
9- Any band you would like to go on a tour with?

10- What can we expect from your show in Lima? Are you going to focus on the last album?
10- ¿Qué podemos esperar de su show en Lima? ¿Se van a centrar en el último álbum?
- Since this is our first time performing in Peru we are going to make a setlist that mixes some of all our records, including the last one.
- Dado que esta es nuestra primera vez que tocamos en Perú vamos a hacer una setlist que mezcla algunos de nuestros álbumes, incluído el último.
11- Nowadays, many musicians talk about streaming services like Spotify and their impact in music today. What do you think about this streaming services?
11- Hoy en día, muchos músicos hablan de servicios de streaming como Spotify y su impacto en la música de hoy. ¿Qué piensan ustedes acerca de estos servicios de streaming?
- I encourage services that tend to recreate the landscape in a legal way. Spotify has achieved that many people who downloaded illegally switched to a legal way of music consumption again. I don't think we're there yet, as the musicians don't see enough income from streaming services like this, but at least it is appealing enough for consumers to put some value on their music again.
- Yo aliento a los servicios que tienden a recrear el paisaje de una manera legal. Spotify ha logrado que muchas personas que han descargado ilegalmente música cambien a una forma legal de consumo de música otra vez. No creo que estemos allí todavía, ya que los músicos no vemos suficientes ingresos por servicios de streaming como este, pero al menos es lo suficientemente atractivo como para que los consumidores pongan algún valor en su música de nuevo.
12- What are the plans for the future for Delain?
12- ¿Cuáles son los planes a futuro de Delain?
- We are currently working on our fifth studio record and we are heading for a fantastic year in 2016. In that year we have our tenth anniversary as a band and we are planning to celebrate our decade in music appropriately.
- Actualmente estamos trabajando en nuestro quinto disco de estudio y nos dirigimos a un año fantástico en el 2016. En ese año tendremos nuestro décimo aniversario como banda y estamos planeando celebrar nuestra década en la música de la forma más adecuada.
